Semantic web trio.. WHAT, WHEN, HOW?

August 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

One of good ideas of our boss – Jure (LinkedIn link idea is stolen from Kamenko, I’m sorry) :) was that one of us will make a presentation concerning Web, once a month (roughly).

The last one was my collegues’ – Blaž’s presentation on the theme “semantic web”.

He gave us a presentation that included YouTube video on the subject (this is the video), ppt. presentation which was the abstract of the research he made that was closed with (of course) conversation. And here’s the most interesting part:

knowing what the essence of the semantic web will be, the three of us have three (yes, three – 3) different views on the topic.

We completely agree on the fact it is suppose to give us better search, better web experience and that it will be personalized even more, but we cannot find the definition that would satisfy us all.

This is how far we came:

Semantic web is going to include vertical search. Search will be personalized to a person level, not a community as the practise is now. So for example – If I type into my search “Cool shirt” my result would be a shirt I find cool and would be completely different to search results of Jure, Blaž or you – same keyword, different results.

The question is, is this going to be completelly algorythmic driven or are people the ones to do this – as Mahalo is doing it, or Wikia. How are computers going to get to know us, how will they determine – through tags, or algorithm, or both?

What do you think?

Semantic web. Is tagging already a semantic web? Is tag search, or even better – are human powered search engines already semantic web searches? Are they only a beginning or none of the above?

Do you find “related videos” on YouTube a semantic web “tool”? Can you point to some web site you found that could have the essence of a semantic web site?

One I’ve found – it’s BlogRovr, but I would like to know more.

What’s your view on the topic?

Advertising coming around… CentrSource

August 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I hope at least some of you remember our first blog post. It was connected to advertising we (in wide majority of cases) experience. A kind of advertising that all of us dislike – ignorant, self centric, not helpful! (almost sounds like talking about an ex) :)

Well, there is improvement in advertising and we are getting there. But before CentrSource serves you the offers you actually need, we can still watch how general advertisers try to take on a new challenge…

Listening to music online?

August 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I came across another great site that I wanted to share with all of you!

It’s obviously a Web 2.0 site. I’ve had my share of music sites. From one to another, but I must say this one outpulls them all. I’ve found it by coincidence – on one of my collegues Skype message (thanks Mateja) and I must say – I really like it.

You can listen to your favorite artists, it automatically adds similar music to your choice, you have the ability to add or edit artists on your own “radio station”, you can tune into other people’s stations (afterwards you are even kindly reminded to thank them) and you can share a particular track or even buy it!

The choice of music that’s offered is also surprising – I have found a bunch: from country to rock and R’n'B, you can even find older songs. I believe it will satisfy your needs to listen your music online. (hopefully you are not too picky) :)

And what’s the best – no ads while listening to the music! :)

The site is

www.jango.com

Check it out and let me know.

Design of CentrSource 3.0

August 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am extremelly proud to present you the confirmed CentrSource design of consumer part.

You can imagine how difficult it is to “fit CentrSource’s shoes”, to be able to provide the service we all aim to, however that was our main goal and I can say we nailed it. You tell me.

CentrSource is going to be everything we always wanted/said it is going to be.

Fair.

Local.

Rewarding.

And even more… Take a look at the picture.

As you can see, users are going to be handeled with a special care – they are going to be able upload their own avatars and choose their own nicknames to present them on CentrSource system.

Lower on the page, user is going to be presented with main sections – top offers, new offers, alerted offers (offers users chose to alert other users on) and our Point$ store, where users will be able to redeem Point$ they earn.

There will also be an option to search offers by keywords or categories.

Offer will be presented to you with a creative and offer actions which will give you a wide variety of options to respond to the offer you find interesting.

On the right side there will also be a map, showing the user where they can take advantage of the offer presented.

Reviews are going to be right below the offer and every registered user will be able to comment and of course read the comments and rate the offer.

On the right side you will see offers advertisers decided to present to all the users, because they think it’s an offer you can’t refuse. On the bottom are offers CentrSource presents you because they are relevant to your search and will make our searching easier.

Is CentrSource great or what? And remember – it’s only one page I’m showing you.
